The Island Girls and Guys, fundraisers for the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer 3-Day Walk, will host a Prime Rib Dinner this Saturday, May 2.
The evening’s festivities will begin at 6 p.m. at the Senior Center and the Island Girls and Guys are hoping to sell out the 90 tickets available, at $60 per ticket.
The group, started by Dottie Cornelius three years ago, began with Bev and Judy Madan, and this year has grown to include two “Guys” — Steve Vierthaler and Paul Carrick. The total group includes 14 walkers and crew this year.
The two Guys are both a little reluctant to go on this walk, said Bev Madan, but they have agreed to “pink up” as a fundraiser. Along with the prime rib dinner, wine, and a silent auction, a new event called “Pink the guys” will show everyone that Real Men DO Wear Pink. Bidders will have the chance to ‘pink your cop’ (Vierthaler) and ‘pink your chef’ (Carrick).
The two guys on the walking team will be fully dressed in pink after winning bidders have adorned the men with pink boas, tutus, and hats, among other items.
“Come and have some fun while contributing to this worthy cause,” says Madan.
Tickets are $60 and are available at Island Market on Sunday, April 26, and Darvill’s and Ray’s Pharmacy. Contact Bev Madan at bellmadan@centurytel.net for further information.
The 3-Day walk will take place September 11-13 in Seattle.
