— from Kristen Wilson —

Calling all budding violinists, violists and cellists! Pamela Wright, Strings Director at Orcas Schools has a Beginning Strings class starting very soon. Interested students in 2nd to 4th grade can join a group that will meet every Tuesday and Thursday at 3:05 p.m. right after school for about 45 minutes. (Younger students might be considered if they are able to join an older group.)

Orcas Island Park and Recreation sponsors the program, but enrollment will be through Mrs. Wright and classes will be held in the music room in the Orcas Elementary School. Sessions will continue through May and culminate in an All-Strings Concert on May 18 at Orcas Center, with all Orcas strings students participating, from Beginning Strings through grade 12. The concert will also feature violinist Monique Mead, international performer and ambassador of classical music, as well as Artistic Advisor to the Orcas Island Chamber Music Festival.

Watch for announcements soon about when the classes will begin.

Story has been updated to reflect Orcas Island Park and Recreation as the sponsor.
