End of story…?
— from KOMO News —
Police said a notorious bear known for swimming between islands in Skagit, San Juan, and Island counties was captured Saturday morning in Mount Vernon.
The bear, also known as “Island Hopping Bear,” was tracked to the 400 block of N. 17th in Mount Vernon where officers chased it into a tree and contained it.
Fish and Wildlife officers tranquilized the bear and caught it in a tarp when it fell from the tree. The bear was not hurt.
Investigators said they believe the bear is the “Island Hopping Bear” because it has markings described by witnesses. “The bear did, however, refuse to identify himself so positive identification could not be verified,” police said.
The bear is scheduled to be released in the wild “…on his own recognizance.”
