||| FROM DOUG BECHTEL for ACTORS THEATER OF ORCAS ISLAND |||
The Actors Theater of Orcas Island announces auditions for the world premier of “Whither the Wind Blows,” by playwright Richard Gossett, directed by Tom Fiscus. Auditions will be held from 6-8 PM on April 29 and May 6, at the Grange, with callbacks on May 7. The play will have six performances between August 4th-13th, at the Grange.
The story is set in a Scottish Hebrides fishing village at the turn of the century. Only the fish buyer boat and the mail connect the village to the outside world. Keen and Ona McKeg live there with their 18 year old son, Jon, whose aspirations are to be a writer, not a fisherman. However, the loss at sea of his older brother a few years before brings Jon’s plans into conflict with his father’s ethic and the family’s needs. Add in the influences of the village priest and the town “witch” and a powerful, moving story of loss and hope emerges.
The play has roles for six men and two women: A storyteller – male, older; Boy – 8-10 years old (ideally); Keen – Male 40-60; Ona – female 40-60; Jon – male 17-25; Priest – male, any age; Dorf – male 60+; and Soji – female 25 – 45.
A copy of the script is available for review at the Library front desk. Please call Tom Fiscus at 360-298-0534, with any questions or to schedule a special audition if the above dates and/or times cannot work for you.
