— from Margaret Payne —
Over the past few years, as Orcas Island citizens have explored a vision for Eastsound, young parents have repeatedly asked for a place for their children to play in the village core. In October 2018, the EPRC, partnering with SJCounty Parks and citizen volunteers, received a $55,000 Lodging-Tax grant to construct a playground in the northwest corner of the Village Green.
The goal from the beginning has been to create a small playground that echoes the design and materials of the Stage-on-the-Green. County Parks has contracted with GreenWorks to design a nature-based playground. The Design Committee — Ken Katz, (Project Manager); Zack Leck, David Kau, Chuck Greening, Margaret Payne and Paul Kamin (EPRC), and Dona Wuthnow (County Parks) — invites your input on designs that feature glacial-erratic rocks and peeled logs as central features of the playground. See more of the designs at www.sanjuanco.com/1587/Eastsound-Village-Green-Play-Area-Design.
Bring your kids and join us at one of two open houses — Monday, February 11, 2:30-4:00 p.m. or 6:00-7:30 p.m. at the Eastsound Fire Station — at which Ben Johnson of GreenWorks will present draft designs and receive questions and comments. Playground construction will begin late winter or early spring. Like the Stage, the playground is a community project. Volunteer materials and labor welcome.

Looks like it will fit in well with the Saturday Market and other Village Green events. Well done!
This plan encroaches on the farmer’s market stands. Stands that serve food typically start at the willow and then go east.
Terrific idea! Thanks EPRC :)
