— from Bev Leyman for Orcas Center —
Cheryl Richey, UW professor emeritus, presents a dazzling display of abstract art in a solo exhibit at Orcas Center. Many pieces in the Arbor Intelligence show are examples of Richey’s fascination with the Japanese concept of wabi-sabi. It is an aesthetic that recognizes the beauty in impermanence and imperfection.
She created a series of paintings by first burning a canvas, then mounting it onto a canvas panel and finishing the piece with paint and other art materials. Richey is an abstract expressionist and focuses on experimentation and “making sense of nonsense.”
Cheryl has offered to donate her commission on sold art in the Arbor Intelligence show to Orcas Center.
The show will continue at the Center through April 3.
