In recognition of Poetry Month, and to celebrate our treasure trove of Orcas Island poets, Orcas Issues is pleased and honored to offer daily poetry during April.
Winter Hummingbird
From a chord of snow rimed branch,
spilling an octave of flakes,
a dark note sifts down.
The maestro, a wintering hummingbird,
bows with a whir of wings
to white applause.

Late Winter Night
Going in moonlessness down this unlit path
elder animal intuition leads at leash end,
watchful where the shadows stir.
A paw on pine cone missed in strobe
alerts the ear.
All other sound is milk breath air
In dark feltness.

Millie… I had no idea you were a poet. I don’t generally care for poetry, too many times it seems too forced or too facile. Your imagery is amazing. I was able to be right there. Thank you… Linda
