In recognition of Poetry Month, and to celebrate our treasure trove of Orcas Island poets, Orcas Issues is pleased and honored to offer daily poetry during April.
PLAINTIVE, NOT PLAINTIFF
by Milly Vetterlein
In the half glass door
a thin carrot stands,
tousled fronds toppling
towards a V of orange.
A penance clad figure
soon to be approaching the bench.
Nothing can be lifted away now, neither locks, nor lesson.
Admission to this space is more than admission.
For no small misdemeanor
metallic ribbons cinch the waist
and coil from wrist to wrist.
Slight shoulders bear the weight of stares
and await the handed down, handed over words.
Yanked from heavy soil, a feathery topped ochre stalk,
bitter, bruised and plaintive.
