In recognition of Poetry Month, and to celebrate and highlight our treasure trove of Orcas Island poets, Orcas Issues is pleased and honored to again offer daily poetry during April.
All that it can be…
— Lin McNulty —
It’s your name
that rides my breath.
That single, solitary syllable
slithers up my throat
morning,
……….night,
………………..even middday.
As fleeting as a mantra,
as thick as chowder
it bursts
past clenched teeth
……….through parted lips
………………..cross whetted cheeks,
My every conversation,
resonates its richness
……….when wispy
……….each bit of music
………………..when present,
………………..glaring headline
………………………….when angry,
………………………….blasting horn.

All art, whether poetry, painting, music or all the others, should address the human
condition of being alive. Thank you, Lin, for your poem about your life. I have reread this poem many times, and each time it gets more poignant and heartfelt and applicable to any sentient persons that take the time to consider it. And that takes deliberation.
It’s the kind of artwork that can apply to how one gets up in the morning…happy, sad, or whatever. It applies. It’s like a good painting…don’t just view it once, view/read
the piece again and again. It will work it’s magic on you. And your poem confirms that .
Thank you Lin.
