In recognition of Poetry Month, and to celebrate our treasure trove of Orcas Island poets, Orcas Issues is pleased and honored to offer daily poetry during April.
FOREST LIGHT
by Nancy Reas
(Inspired by a photo by Jeffrey Otis)
A black and white photo hangs
on the wall in my house.
From five feet away
misty light shimmers through the trees
whispers to their branches
glazes the wet earth.
It is when I come close
look into its deepness
that the enchantment emerges.
I have been there before
I am there now
in its silent magic.
I alone in a thousand years
have stood here
in the forest’s light
my feet rooted into the soft soil.
In another millennium
it will be my home still.
