Explain
by Carla Stanley
The sound
has stars in its eyes
while the water
walks on water
silver footprints
rest
then ripple
dance step hints
like the copper ones on Broadway
frogs chorus line
in time as
daylight saves itself
from going to bed early
were we ever in charge
or passengers on backs
of a whirled spinning
wonder grinning if
a lifetimes enough
these rough greys give
in to tidal ways
that soul the island
innards gentle tough

i love these lines:
these rough greys give
in to tidal ways
that soul the island
innards gentle tough
yes!!! i never understand how people who live here don’t see that this you speak to is what makes this place “special” – thank you!
Carla Stanley never fails to make me grin!
Lovely, Carla. Lovely!
Delightful imagery and word play!
Carla Stanley is all around amazing. She really came through for us with the Orcas Island Lit Fest (wait til you see the map she drew and the signs she made!).
Beautiful poem Carla!
