In recognition of Poetry Month, and to celebrate our treasure trove of Orcas Island poets, Orcas Issues is pleased and honored to offer daily poetry during April.
CLOUDS OVER SKAGIT VALLEY
— by Ingrid Karnikis —
Across the high bridge
where Swinomish waters wind flat
through flooded fields
and April clouds heap
height upon height
above the broad valley,
where tulips and daffodils explode
from rich earth,
their reckless colors leaping
from straight lines.
A wind blows cold as March,
clouds cast darkness over all.
That same breeze scatters them
and April returns
as sunlight pierces
hidden places’
fruit trees shake blossoms
to the earth.
