Saturday, July 21, 10 a.m., Downtown Olga
— from Lorna Rhodes —
Don’t miss Olga Daze! Festivities in Olga begin in front of the Community Center in Olga at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 21. The day will be better than ever this year, with something for everyone.
Come for breakfast at the Bake Sale, which will feature fresh maple bars made on the spot. Stay for a delicious lunch of hotdogs, homemade chili, and chili dogs. Add a homemade dessert from the bake sale!
The famous Olga Daze Parade will start at noon sharp. An Orcas Island fire truck will lead the parade with all the kids (and young of heart) we can fit on it. During the parade, we’ll have an unofficial “Weird/funny Hat” contest. The prize will be an Emmes Woodshop Cutting Board. We expect the Odd Fellows Drummers to join us. Other drummers welcome.
Of course, as always, the parade is for everyone–no spectators, all participants.
Live music will be performed from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. by our talented local musicians. Zach O’Brien – DJ, Teacher’s Pet – will be doing sound system. Carl Burger, TAZ (Marj Franke/Tish Knapp w/ Carl Burger on guitar), Mac Pac (Brian McGahey and kids) and others will play for your entertainment.
There will be lots of fun for children, including games, face painting, and a pie-eating contest.
An Olga Daze tradition is the raffle of a beautiful handmade quilt by Betty Marcum and Dorothy Lundquist. Raffle tickets will be available for purchase until 2:30, with the drawing at 3:00. Purchasers need not be present to win.

We’ll have an Olga History booth and a Save Our Post Office table.
Sandy Playa is developing an Olga Grown Table of extra “Olga Grown” flowers, vegetables, and plant starts.
Expect a fantastic “Barn/Yard Sale,” open until 2:30. Contact Steve Emmes at 376-1461 for special arrangements.
The first Olga Daze festivities, over 20 years ago, included a parade, a bake sale, and hot dogs. Today the event has blossomed into a full day of fun for everyone, made possible by a volunteer labor of many, many Olga residents. Olga Daze is the community’s only major fundraiser for the club and its landmark building.
