Vintage cars, smooth rides at the Show and Shine car show

All varieties of collectible vehicles set to exhibit

By Michael Rivkin

Orcas Road Classics Association, Orcas Island’s very own car enthusiast club, is excited to present it’s annual Car Show and Shine! This wonderful ‘home town’ event is open to all antique, classic, collector and just plain interesting vehicles!  The club invites all vintage, significant and unusual cars, trucks and motorcycles to participate. This is also a great opportunity for folks to come by and view the outstanding cars, while visiting the Orcas Fly-In. In fact, many owners stay with their cars to provide an excellent way to ask questions and learn about our automotive cultural history, and of course to take a trip down memory lane!

Offerings are expected to include everything from Model T Fords and other early American iron… to MG’s and Porsches. Trey Vore, President of the club, says  “Our hope with this year’s entrants is to bring a cross section of not just the Island’s automotive offerings… but also from the surrounding Islands and mainland”.  Vore added “As car culture changes in America, we want to do our part to both preserve and share our love and enthusiasm with both young and old”.

This year’s event benefits the Orcas Island Food Bank, with the $10. entry fee benefiting the Food Bank– or waived, with non-perishable food contributions.  It’s also a great way to also enjoy the Orcas Fly-In!

The ‘Drive In’ is this Saturday, August 6th, and is located at the Eastsound Airport Park (adjacent to the airport).  Entrants are asked to arrive by 10AM for proper registration and placement.  And while not a competitive car show, People’s Choice and Best-in-Show awards to be presented, just to add to the fun!

So shine up old ‘Betsy’… and we’ll see you there!
