||| FROM HILARY CANTY for ORCAS ISLAND COMMUNITY FOUNDATION |||

This beautiful Barred Owl came to visit us this past week, hanging out in our yard for most of Saturday. It drove the robins crazy, but Hank and I sure enjoyed the visit! I am not sure if it was scoping out a bird’s nest or had an eye on one of the young chicks in our coop. Fortunately, it left before having dinner.

The County has released a couple reports of note this week. One is the results of their recent county-wide survey on roads and transportation. You can see the report here. It is a little disappointing that we did not have more Orcas participation. I am hopeful that the County can use the information to prioritize their work plan. As a habitual walker, I sure would appreciate connecting pathways throughout the island.

The other report is a synopsis of the recent public meetings concerning the Department of Community Development. Those are published here. It appears they have plenty of work ahead to get the department back to functioning.

The Fourth of July Celebrations kick off this weekend and continue through the week. The Chamber of Commerce has published a schedule of events so we can all keep track. With the parade on Saturday, Orcas will have hosted a parade a week for three weeks (OISD Senior Class, Solstice, and the 4th). We are a community that loves to strut!

OICF will be closed on the Fourth. I hope you have a lovely holiday.
