Calling all garden lovers and book enthusiasts! We’re so excited to share MORE about our new OIGC Member’s Book Club — a space where we’ll explore captivating books that inspire, nurture, and connect us to plants, nature and each other.
We had a very successful soft launch in partnership with Darvill’s where natural science illustrator and author Robin Lee Carlson (www.robinleecarlson.com) led us through a discussion of Zoe Schlanger’s The Light Eaters. It’s a thought-provoking book that explores how science is finding more and more proof of plant intelligence and what that means to our perspectives on the natural world. We highly recommend it if you haven’t already had the chance to read it. |

| Now for the information you book lovers have been waiting for! Our first official Book Club meeting will be held in the Community Room at the Orcas Island Library on Thursday, September 4th at 5pm. For those unable to attend in person we will also be testing out a virtual option so please let us know if you’d like to help us try it out! As we mentioned in our previous communication, our first book will be Lyanda Lynn Haupt’s Rooted: Life at the Crossroads of Science, Nature & Spirit. She explores how all of us on this planet are interconnected and how we can better live in harmony with nature. We expect our conversation to last about two hours. |

| This first meeting will be facilitated by Adrienne Walker but we’ll be looking for future facilitators so think about the book YOU want to discuss! We’ll also take some time to solicit your thoughts on future meeting dates, times and formats.
Need the book? Darvill’s has copies available now! The library also has a copy for those of you that are members, and for anyone who prefers an e-book or audiobook, library members have free access to both via Libby – ask a librarian for more information on this great resource. Finally we have a few used copies that you can borrow – just reach out to Laura at oigcprez@gmail.com, first come first serve. |

| We do ask that you register by the end of July so we know how many people are interested. As part of the sign up process we’ll also be asking for your favorite nature and gardening books so we have a list to work from for future meetings. |

We look forward to seeing you in September!
