||| FROM BOB WAUNCH for AIRHAWKS FLYING CLUB |||
Airhawks Flying Club is proud to announce another significant award to one of our High School Flight Training Scholarship recipients, Bethany Carter. Bethany, who just completed her sophomore year at OIHS, previously received a $4,000 Flight Training Scholarship from the Airhawks. Now she has also received an additional $10,000 Scholarship from AOPA; the Aircraft Owners Pilots Association, based in Frederick, MD.
The AOPA Student Scholarships are highly competitive and awarded to only a select few outstanding High School students throughout the United States once a year. Bethany plans to continue her flight training this summer and will be eligible to take her Private Pilot examination on her 17th birthday November 2. She plans to use the additional scholarship funds to obtain enough flying hours to qualify for the Instrument Rating examination shortly after obtaining her Private Pilot Certificate; a significant and rare achievement.
Bethany would like to thank her instructor Tony Simpson, her Airhawks mentor Bob Waunch, Principal Freeman, her coaches and the teachers at OIHS, as well as the generous community that have encouraged her all along her journey in becoming a pilot.
The AOPA Flight Training Scholarship program encourages students to achieve their aviation goals. AOPA partners with the student, celebrating success and providing support throughout their training. All scholarships are made possible by generous gifts to the AOPA Foundation.
