Dry Goods, an original water color by Tom Hoffman, will be auctioned at the Agricultural Summit on March 8

— Updated March 7 at 8  a.m. —The schedule for the 2014 San Juan Islands Agriculture Summit: Farming for the Next Generation” has been set for the county-sponsored event March 7 and 8.

The Summit will take place at Orcas School, with regional organizations WA State Small Farms Team; Northwest Agriculture NW Research and Extension Center (NWREC);  Business Center (NABC); Organic Seed Alliance (OSA); and local farms and farmers, chefs, and agriculture organizations participating.

On Friday, Hands-on events will take place from 1:30 to 5 p.m.  as scheduled:

  • Humane On‐Farm Livestock Slaughtering with Farmstead Meatsmith $135 hands on participation; $40 observation
  • Biochar (Tom Miles) Free at Coffelt’s Farm
  • Farm‐to‐School in Action: Three Part Workshop at Orcas School – Free

Registration for Hands on Friday workshops is separate from Summit Saturday. Location of events will be provided after registration. Registration, scholarship information, sponsors and event descriptions are located at https://sjcarc.org/summit/.

  • Soup and Salad with Summit speakers at Red Rabbit Farm (call 378-4009 to RSVP)
  • Seed Growers Gathering with OSA (5:30 p.m. at Hogstone Pizza in Eastsound)

  • 8‐8:40 am Elected Officials Panel and Q&A: “What steps can elected officials take to strengthen agriculture in SJC?”
  • 8:45‐9:15am Keynote (Steve Jones)
  • 9:15‐ 9:45 Emerging Markets for SJC: Panel with regional leaders
  • 10:00‐12:15 Morning Sessions
  • 12:30‐1:45pm Lunch and Keynote (David Montgomery)
  • 2:00‐4:30pm Afternoon Sessions
  • 4:30‐5:30pm Social Hour

All day: Seed Swap, Seed Libraries, Trade Show, Local Organization tables and Displays
