I first set foot on Orcas Island in December 1990 for a company Christmas celebration at Rosario Resort. The environmental consulting firm I worked for terminated my employment shortly after that gathering because they were not impressed with my choice of venue.
A year and a half later, my husband and I again caught a ferry to the San Juans for a camping trip to Orcas. This three-day adventure, staying at Moran State Park, eventually turned into several trips back home to get more stuff before we turned our home on the mainland into a rental to spend the next year camping at Moran and eventually settling into a sheep field in Olga. My mother was appalled.
Fast forward to our dream home purchase in 2001 from which my husband departed after four years to move to Tennessee. My next few years on Orcas were spent in various rentals, to include another ‘seasonal’ rental with no central heating.
In 2010 and I came across a most-welcome opportunity to move into a new dream home, albeit a rental. I practiced gratitude everyday as I settled into what I was sure was going to be my absolutely perfect waterfront forever home with ideal landlords.
Today, I’m again looking at moving as my beloved landlord has passed on. Her estate will allow occupancy through May. And, with no bitterness, I’m again looking for a home.
So… Looking for a new rental. Anybody?
