San Juan County Land Bank Commission Meeting in Friday Harbor from 8:30  to 11:20  a.m. at the Fire Station Training Room, 260 West Street, San Juan Island.

James Hubbell DVD World-renowned organic architect, painter, stained glass artist and visionary for world understanding presented in a DVD at the Orcas Library from 1 to 3 p.m.  Hubbell will be visiting San Juan Island on September 3 – 5.  This is an opportunity to view Hubbell’s DVDs and take part in a Q and A.  Refreshments will be served.  Also as an artist, he is the leading living contributor to the Arts and Crafts movement in the United States.  376-3985.

Plein Air Art – Reception at Crow Valley Pottery in partnership with Plein Air Washington and San Juan Preservation Trust.  Washington artists who captured the rare beauty of Orcas Island are featured. From 4 to 8 p.m. 376-4260 at Crow Valley in Eastsound.

The Sutton House photographer reception at Darvill’s – Reception, book signing and discussion to be held with John Altberg who has done the photography for The Sutton House, a new book about the restoration of architect Frank Lloyd Wright House in Nebraska. 6  to 7:30 p.m..

Sara Williams, Orcas author, reads from her new book  One Big Itch noon to 2 p.m. at Darvill’s. “Sara Williams channels her inner Raymond Chandler with One Big Itch, an addictively readable tale set in Hawaii and featuring detective John Spyer.” 376-2135.

PTSA roller skate repair party Volunteers welcome to help make sure skates are ready to go when the PTSA resumes Friday night roller skating in late September. If you’d like to help, bring a socket set, screwdriver or pliers, if you have them, and join the PTSA and Kiwanis Club as we refurbish all the skates we can. From 1 to 4 p.m. at the old School Gym.
