— from Rick Hughes —
I would like to ask residents of San Juan County, and this is from me personally and not from the county, to consider staying at home whenever possible.
Please avoid travel in the county if possible, except for needed supplies.
If you own a short term rental, please consider not renting it for the next few weeks.
Please feel free to contact me with any questions.
Please wash your hands for twenty seconds
Practice social distance
Check on neighbors
Cover a cough and a sneeze
Be safe.

Thank you Rick. We’re all waiting for something official from the council.
Thank you Rick. We’re all looking forward to hearing something official from the council soon.
How about mandatory self isolation for SJ County. It’s inevitable
so why not get in front on this?
How about instead of a “personal“ ask, we have some statement from the county council far more official.
A week ago, Rick Hughes is letting us all know how he will be out in public walking around and shopping and would be available for conversations and answering questions. The county council leadership in this matter has been extremely disappointing. (Please note that I am distinguishing here between the County’s response and the County Council’s response.). Instead, it is the local nonprofits and businesses that have risen up to this crisis. As of the writing of this comment, there is still no official statement from the county council regarding COVID-19. Just your smiling faces on the website in an election year. Disappointed? You bet.
This “ask” means less than nothing. Come on Rick, as a part of this community, you are putting the lives of your neighbors and friends directly in jeopardy due to your failure to act.
“By order of the San Juan County Council and in the best interest of the public and county staff, camping at all four county parks is closed, as well as vacation rentals, hotels, bed and breakfasts, transient mooring and airport camping until May 30. These actions were taken on Monday, March 23, in an effort to flatten the spread of COVID-19.”
Thank You Rick!!
