Sharing Life Stories: Monthly Memoir Group meets from 1 to 3 p.m.  in the Library. All are welcome to join with fellow writers to read, discuss and write.  You may bring excerpts from memoirs you have enjoyed, as well as short pieces of your own writing to share. This is an informal, encouraging group!

[intlink id=”special-filing-period-for-orcas-rec-commissioners-only-3-days-august-26-28″ type=”post”]Special filing[/intlink] for Orcas Recreation District Commissioners, to be elected in the November election, begins today and closes Aug. 28. Candidates may submit their filings in person, by mail, by fax, or by email (www.sanjuanco.com “Elections” tab), to the Elections Office at 55 Second Street in Friday Harbor from 8 am through 4:30 pm on the three filing days.

Orcas Center will hold [intlink id=”auditions-for-great-expectations-august-30-and-31″ type=”post”]auditions for an original adaptation of the Dickens’ classic, Great Expectations [/intlink]from 2-4 p.m. and again Monday, August 31, from 6-8 p.m. The play will be directed by Jane Jones, co-founder and co-artistic director of Seattle-based Book-It Repertory Theatre. A sign-up sheet for audition slots is posted on the front porch of Orcas Center, and scripts are available by contacting Deborah Sparks at 376-2281 ext. 2 or sparks@orcascenter.org.
