Newest numbers. The Washington State Department of Health (DOH) reported a total of 486,574 confirmed cases as of 11:59 p.m. on Aug. 23. In all, there have been 6,417 deaths in Washington due to COVID-19.

FDA grants full approval of the Pfizer vaccine. Gov. Jay Inslee said this milestone should boost confidence in the vaccine’s safety and effectiveness. He also encouraged all Washingtonians to make informed vaccine choices. Read the full Aug. 23 statement.

 





Inslee issues new proclamations for facial coverings and vaccine requirements. Facial coverings are now required in all places generally accessible to people outside one’s household. COVID-19 at long-term care facilities. As of Aug. 23, a total of 21,767 COVID-19 cases and 2,737 deaths in Washington have been associated with — or likely associated with — a nursing home, assisted living facility, or adult family home. The state COVID-19 Assistance Hotline is for general COVID-19 information and questions. Call 1-800-525-0127, then press # or text 211-211 for help. Hours of operation are 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Mondays, and 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday and on state holidays. You can also text the word “Coronavirus” to  211-211 to receive links to the latest COVID-19 information on your phone, including county-level updates, and resources for families, businesses and students.
