||| FROM HEDRICK SMITH, RECLAIM THE AMERICAN DREAM.ORG |||
Washington – We have all become so inured to Donald Trump’s erratic, volcanic, beyond-the-bounds behavior that we may not have absorbed the alarming reality that in the past two weeks, the President of the United States has posed what some would term a “clear and present danger” to our nation’s bedrock institutions, what could potentially become the most serious danger since the Civil War.
Each Trumpian episode over the past fortnight has been a shock to the body politic. Taken together, these shock waves constitute an earthquake that threatens to crack the foundations of our republic.
Think back over this scenario:
Unprecedented: Trump’s Rejection of the 2020 Election
Like an autocrat-for-life in Belarus or North Korea, the president decrees that any election that does not authenticate his own return to power is ipso facto, a fraud. Before any ballots are cast, he denies in advance the integrity and legitimacy of this year’s election, a false and unprecedented calumny that he reiterates in the first presidential debate, tartly refusing to commit himself to a peaceful transition of power if the vote goes against him and laying the ground for him to challenge an unfavorable vote-count in any battleground state.
He turns the first presidential debate, in Cleveland on September 29, into a shambles and a circus, deliberately trashing that forum for voter education with a fusillade of interruptions and verbal histrionics that treat his Democratic challenger, Joe Biden, not as an equal but as an underling. When the debate commission, scrambling to recover from that disaster and to accommodate the president’s personal bout with COVID-19, sets new rules to ensure candidate safety and fairness, Trump erupts at the very idea of his participating in a virtual town hall, where his microphone might be cut off after his allotted time.
“I’m not going to waste my time on a virtual debate,” Trump sneers to Fox Business anchor Maria Bartiromo. “You sit behind a computer and do a debate, it’s ridiculous. And then they cut you off whenever they want.” After having run roughshod over former Vice President Biden 147 times at Cleveland, Trump bristles at the notion that some moderator might impose time-discipline and force him to abide by the rules.
Trump’s Silence on Law & Order in Michigan
On the fraught issue of public safety and political violence, the president abdicates his role to calm the nation.
Although his own FBI Director Christopher Wray told Congress last month that white supremacists represent the gravest threat of domestic terrorism, President Trump refuses to curb and condemn white supremacist groups. Pressed three times by debate moderator Chris Wallace, Trump publicly tells his right-wing paramilitary rank-and-file to “stand back and stand by,” which the Proud Boys and other heavily armed extremists embrace as their leader’s call to arms, freshly emblazoned on their black and gold T-shirts.
Just nine days later, the danger from the violent right emerges for real. On October 8, the FBI announces it has uncovered an armed plot by the right-wing, anti-government Wolverine Militia and authorities have charged 13 vigilantes with a plan to kidnap Michigan’s Democratic governor, Gretchen Whitmer, to kill some police officials and to attack the state capitol, according to the government’s criminal filings.
Another reality check for a Commander-in-Chief who proclaims law and order as his campaign mantra. Yet strangely, the surfacing of an authentic, organized rightwing paramilitary plot does not prompt President Trump to issue a new call for law and order, to caution against the danger of violence in the Super0heated chaos of the 2020 political campaign, or to remind Americans to keep their disagreements peaceful and to respect duly elected state governments.
Not surprising, perhaps, since it was Trump himself who in April had summoned civil mutiny by tweeting for his followers to “LIBERATE MICHIGAN” and two other states with Democratic governors who had imposed health restrictions to combat corona. So this month the President doubles down on the grievances of the Wolverine Militia plotters and plays to their partisan extremism by renewing his personal attacks on Governor Whitmer as a “terrible” leader whom he mocks as the corona” lock-up queen.”
Trump Echoes Nixon’s Enemies List
Simultaneously, Trump escalates his incendiary rhetoric, when from his sickbed in the White House, he launches into a two-hour rant on Fox News against his political foes, publicly hounding Attorney General William Barr to indict former President Barack Obama and Vice President Biden, for daring to investigate Russia’s brazen intrusion into the 2016 US election, invited publicly by candidate Donald Trump in July 2016, when he urged the Kremlin to steal Hillary Clinton’s emails.
Desperate for a new line of attack to wound politically ascendant Joe Biden, Trump concocts the legal fantasy that Biden should be criminally disqualified from running because of the government’s inquiry into possible Russian links to the 2016 Trump campaign. “These people should be indicted,” Trump fulminates. “This was the greatest political crime in the history of our country, and that includes Obama and it includes Biden.”
Forty-six years ago, Richard Nixon was forced to resign from the presidency both because of his coverup of the illegal break-in at Democratic campaign headquarters in the Watergate complex by the covert Republican ”plumbers” crew and because of Nixon’s compilation of an “Enemies List’ and by his threats to weaponize the power of the Presidency against his political enemies.
What saved our Republic from Nixon’s nefarious plotting was the integrity and courage of Republicans in Congress, like former Senator Howard Baker of Tennessee and Rep. William Cohen of Maine, who joined Democrats in pressing to prosecute the president’s abuse of power. In the constitutional crisis of the 1970s, that generation of Republicans put country before party.
The Guard Rails of Our Republic
Not so today. Tribal partisan loyalties have polarized and hamstrung our political institutions. Once again, a president is on a reckless rampage against domestic rivals and, this time, against an election that is trending against him. President Trump puts our democratic system at risk by choosing to ignore the threat to our social fabric and the danger to our political institutions from his frenzied, heavily armed paramilitary partisans. Rather than preserve domestic tranquility by counseling restraint, the President has chosen, through silence and innuendo, to toy with inviting further mutinies.
What we have witnessed this past fortnight is stunning evidence that Donald Trump does not recognize, respect, or even reluctantly yield to any bounds of precedent, law, or Constitution. He says and does whatever he thinks he can get away with – forever testing the limits – and he is succored by pliant Republican officeholders, who have yielded their independence by tethering their own political fate to his.
Only the Democratic control of the House of Representatives, the independence of the American judiciary and the media, and the refusal of a few of the President’s aides to bow to his worst instincts have restrained his relentless attempts to abuse the enormous powers of his great office.
Fortunately, now another bulwark of democracy is emerging. Throngs of American voters, once drawn to Trump, are now appalled and repelled by Trump, by his churlish disdain for the norms, ethics, and legal restraints of our constitutional system, and they have begun to render the verdict that the clear and present danger posed by Donald Trump to our Republic can no longer be tolerated or endured.

Cute rant. Who can afford an extra several thousand dollars a year in taxes right now? Vote for Biden and you are literally writing a new check for thousands of dollars to the government, every year, as he will cut the Trump tax cuts on day one. Get out your checkbooks, the dems are coming for your money in the midst of a pandemic!
“Cute Rant” Really Sharon? Is that all you can respond with to the points that Hedrick makes? You are more worried a possible tax increase than the brazen attempt at a grab of unlawful power. ( The tax increase would most likely include a roll back of the tax breaks given to high income earners ). All the attempts at vote suppression don’t give you pause about the denial of the rights of everyone in this country?
Thank you, Mr. Smith, for this excellent summary of why we need to vote Trump out. I’m slightly embarrassed by the previous commenter’s ignorance regarding a Joe Biden presidency. I heard scare talk like that my whole life, having been raised in a household with parents who also spouted uninformed predictions concerning what could happen under a Democratic president. Buncha baloney.
Sharon, My understanding is Biden’s proposed roll back of tax cuts will impact those of you who have taxable income exceeding $400,000. What do you know about it?
Stephen: Correct. Biden “says” he won’t raise your taxes, however what he doesn’t want you to realize is that his firm pledge of cutting the Trump tax cuts will immediately raise your taxes thousands of dollars each year. So his claim that your taxes won’t go up if you earn under $400K is patently FALSE. John, happy to refute Smiths’ claims. Claims of a fraud election? The Trump has every right to question the validity. Going all mail-in ballots creates ripe opportunity for fraud, and it has already been shown that that is the case. There are lots of examples of fraud, lost ballots, duplicate ballots, ballots in trash cans. Look it up. The debate? Sure it was hard to watch, but to be honest, Biden was the one hurling all the horrific insults: “Clown, worst President ever, shut up, Putin’s puppy.” Trump interrupted a lot, but so did Biden. But to paint Biden as the innocent lamb and Trump as the villain is ridiculous. Trump refuses to condemn white supremacist groups? I love this lie. There is a 5-minute clip out there (look it up), where someone stitched together all the instances where Trump has specifically condemned white supremacy. How many times will be enough…? Trump has condemned all forms of hate many times over. You just won’t see it on your favorite mainstream media channel. If you look at the exact clip in question, Trump actually interrupted the moderator three times by saying “sure” when asked to condemn white supremacy. Then Biden interrupts and then Trump answers Biden about the proud boys. This all happened in fractions of seconds and you all sit here an analyze and pick apart a bang-bang play by saying he won’t condemn. Give me a break. Law and order? Trump will uphold law and order and respects law enforcement white addressing the few bad apples. Biden will not as he “redirects” funds from the police and won’t stand up for law enforcement who are routinely harassed, assaulted, and killed. You are not seeing that on your TV are you? The future of our democracy? Lord help us if Biden wins. The socialist-leaning people he is surrounding himself with should scare everyone. 54% of American’s polled say they are better off right now, in the midst of the pandemic, than they were four years ago. In a pandemic when scores are out of work. You all won’t ever give this President any credit, but the reality is that if you can get past your initials primal reactions that Trump is “bad,” as you have been told, you will see Trump offers so much more for the everyday American than Biden has even thought of in his 47 years of not doing much. Don’t look at the media headlines unless you want to be manipulated. Take the time to look at the policies and implications and then make up your own mind. The choice is clear. Trump 2020.
Thank you, Mr. Smith. Since Trump has declined to agree to a peaceful transition, we need a landslide for Biden to preclude chaos and preserve our democracy. I now wish Gore had not deferred. Just think how much better off the world would be now if we had had Gore in power in 2001 and thereafter. Vote, people!
Many thanks to Hedrick Smith for yet another fine and constructive piece, raising alarms that need to be raised.
As for Ms. Donague’s comments: of the last dozen or so administrations, going back to Roosevelt. all but one of the top half for growth in GDP have been Democratic, and all but one of the bottom half have been Republican. Generally, Democratic administrations have presided over an average 2x growth compared to Republicans (see the very careful study at https://www.aeaweb.org/articles?id=10.1257/aer.20140913). It is utter bunk that Republicans are “business-friendly” – they are plutocrat-friendly, no doubt, but Democrats have been much more supportive of general economic growth for most of the last century. As for socialism, Ms. Donague would not know a socialist if one bit her.
Knew it wouldn’t be long before the insults flew in my direction. So sad. How dare I have a different opinion. William Symes, are you going to honestly sit there and say Democrats are more business-friendly than Republicans? When the Governor of this state (and most blue states) have businesses locked down indefinitely? Please… not even you believe that one! And a Joe Biden admin is going to save the economy more than Trump admin? Wow. Trump’s tax cuts have been a dream for businesses and the average American. Look at the polls on who is better for the economy and you’ll see Trump ahead by a wide margin. Not even close! Many dems admit Trump is better for the economy, which I’m sure is incredibly hard for them to do! You really shouldn’t have gone there…
Sharon, If you don’t obtain your information from The ” Mainstream Media” then what do you use? If one doesn’t rely on response-able organizations that can trace their information source, and held accountable for it, then it can not be relied upon. Freedom of the press and news organizations ( the mainstream media ) have been criticized and mocked because it doesn’t flatter the people in the White House. As for mail in voting, the military has done it since the Civil War, without widespread fraud ( NBC News ). Sure there instances of problems, why not work to ensure the system works as planned instead of trying to falsify it or make it harder by restricting the Post Office? After all Trump votes by mail. Attempting to paint Joe Biden and his party as Socialist-leaning is trying to create scare tactics out of the desire to ensure health care for the population. The U.S. spends more than twice what other countrys spend on health care ( PBS Newshour ) we as a country can do better. Maybe take the burden of health care off of business and allow Medicare to do it. 34 percent of the U. S. population is now on public coverage ( US Census Bureau ).
Mr. Smith,
I love your spot-on thoughtful article. Thank you.
But you buried your lead. ; )
“What we have witnessed this past fortnight is stunning evidence that Donald Trump does not recognize, respect, or even reluctantly yield to any bounds of precedent, law, or Constitution.”
Thank you, Hedrick, for your always spot on commentary. And I highly recommend your “Who stole the American dream?” to anyone wishing to gain insight into how our economy has arrived at the present, with the top 1% owning half of our assets. They own our political process, in particular Republican members congress..
There you go again, “Sharon,” showing your true colors: Bright Red. How does it feel to live on a Deep Blue island? Or do you actually live here? No records.
Rick, please ignore her comments, as many of us here on the island have learned to do.
”Going all mail-in ballots creates ripe opportunity for fraud, and it has already been shown that that is the case. ” A few anecdotes do not a fraud wave make. The last conviction I recall is the Republican in, I believe, North Carolina–Collected ballots and filled them in or changed them. And this week, Repubs in CA set out a large number of fake ”official” collection boxes. A felony.
As for all mail-in voting, we’ve been using it here in WA for a decade. No issues. Nothing like the organized voter suppression in TX and WI.
”Cute rant”? Do you even expect to be taken seriously? As for taxes, congratulations for being in the $400,000 or more category. Only those folks will see a tax increase. You know that this is the exception to repealing Trump’s tax windfall for the %.
Riordan. Was hoping you would make an appearance. Always fun to throttle you with my comments. Manning, not even close to earning $400K per year but thoroughly enjoying the Trump tax cuts. If you want to believe your taxes won’t go up and the “$400K” argument, well I will just say wait and watch. Enjoy those Trump tax cuts while you have them, and you better hope Biden doesn’t win because he’s cutting them if he wins. Estimate is the average American will pay an extra $4K per year. That’s what you are saving right now under Trump. Sad to know that so many people don’t even realize they are paying less in taxes right now. Ugh. John Fleischer, I get my news from all sources, all sides, and from as many platforms as possible. The problem with mainstream media is that they largely only report one side and inflate/twist the stories. Do that every day for the past four years and many in your audience will start to get a false picture of what is really going on. It’s really a subliminal thing. Before you know it, you have a negative view of this administration because it’s what has been pounded into your brain for the last 1500 straight days. The media is not impartial. People must remember that there is another side that doesn’t get reported. Just take Trump news and Obama news as an example. Ever notice how EVERY Trump story is negative, and EVERY Obama story was positive (on all three nightly news channel)? Really unbelievable. That is why it is important to be informed by seeking out news from all sides, even the sources you think you can’t really stomach to watch for very long.
Thank You, Sharon Donague, you are a Breath of Fresh Air on Orcas Island.
Spirit Eagle.
Throttle me? Writers who have the courage of their convictions don’t hide behind fake names.
Sharon Donague, I think I love you.
A person’s political leanings have no bearing on the fact that you cannot simultaneously support Donald Trump and representative Democracy.
Har de har, har. As the pirate said. Of course , he was plowed with cheap run. Where’s Leif when you need him most?
love,
j
Sharon – who are you? Come on, own up to it – you are not an Orcas resident!
Lower taxes under Trump? Not according to a thirteen page 2020 Congressional Budget Office report, published in January of this year, titled, “The Budget Outlook for 2020 to 2030.” I’ve attached a link to the CBO presentation for perusal below.
https://www.cbo.gov/system/files/2020-01/56050-CBO-budget-outlook.pdf
In fact, (please see slide 10), total revenues as a share of GDP are projected to rise, largely because of increasing receipts from individual tax payers while corporate taxes remain at record lows. Regrettably, individual tax revenues are projected to sky rocket after 2025. So, hard working Americans will be pulling out our check books either way.
Additional details are available on the CBO website. A link is available in the pdf above.
Thank you, Hedrick, for providing us with another thought provoking article.
Thanks for that Elisabeth Britt, but I am really not sure what you are trying to highlight other than my exact point that Trump is the one who lowered taxes and kept them low as you will see on page 10 you reference. The only reason the taxes are projected to rise in 2025 is because Trump’s tax cuts are set to expire then! Corporate income taxes, payroll taxes, and income tax are all LOWER now than when Trump took office. And no, you won’t be pulling out your checkbook either way because if you vote Trump, he’ll extend the tax cuts. I would also like to direct your attention to the income tax curve on page 10. See all the SPIKES? Those are all DEMOCRAT PRESIDENCIES. Look at what Obama and Clinton did to your wallet. Disgraceful. This is what Democrats do, and this is what Biden has already pledged to do. They want your money and they’re coming for it. Remember that just before you mark your ballot. You will be pulling out your checkbook if Biden wins I will promise you that. He’s cutting the Trump tax cuts on day one per his pledge. If you don’t want to see a spike in your income and payroll taxes, you’ll vote Trump. And it’s not an insignificant number. An extra $4K average per year in the average American’s pocket goes a long way in a pandemic with high unemployment. That’s food on the table, rent, gas, and Christmas presents. Trump is like rocket fuel to the economy and that is exactly what we need right now. Trump 2020.
Mr. Smith’s regurgitation of long discredited smears is a good reminder of how fragile our democracy is in the hands of elite intellectual snobs.
My favorite “Russia, if you’re listening, I hope you’re able to find the 30,000 (Clinton) emails that are missing. I think you will probably be rewarded mightily by our press.” A clearly sarcastic remark that skewered Clinton and the media. The left pounced on it as “proof” of collusion – really?
Or how about the Lefts rejection of the 2016 election? The national meltdown and hissy fit, the Mueller investigation with $40 million spent to find nothing, and perversion of the impeachment process with two vacuous articles. But we have evidence! We have water cooler gossip at the State Department!
Or Biden’s criminality, BREAKING NEWS: Hunter Biden’s abandoned hard drive emails implicating the “Big Guy” have been corroborated by Bevan Cooney, his former business associate, who has given access to his email account to Peter Schweizer who then released them to Breitbart.
Let’s face it you don’t like Trump because he’s a rogue democrat, using in your face democrat tactics, You have met the enemy and he is you. (Apologies Pogo)
Thank you, Sharon.
Let’s take a moment to recap what you have shared with us. First, the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act gave big tax breaks to corporations. A perk that allowed American corporations to repurchase their own stock; benefiting investors tremendously while boosting dividend payments.
The law also provided a tax break to professionals via the pass through deduction, a benefit that allows them to deduct 20% of their income before paying taxes.
Business owners will certainly appreciate the tax breaks. But what about the people they expect to purchase their goods?
Perhaps you are among this group.
Nevertheless, middle class economic stagnation is inevitable. (It’s already taking place).
But the Republicans could always adopt expanded tax credits that could help with housing costs and boost some growth for this group. A group that has witnessed significant income declines since the 1980s. With those declines, purchasing power is diminished and the dwindling middle class has accumulated a significant amount of consumer debt. A fact that does not help corporations or businesses that would like to sell products to Americans. I seriously doubt any of them ever imagined that they would be on future welfare programs. They just wanted to work and realize their small part of the American Dream.
Perhaps you would be willing to meet for a cup of coffee, so you can explain to me in detail why my children and parents paid more taxes to the IRS, since Trump’s 2017 tax reform?
They should have been among the millions of Americans that you claim are currently realizing significant tax savings. But they were not. I do their taxes, so – I’m aware of the tax burdens that they incurred.
I could spell it out for you in detail. But, it’s apparent that you’re just a political operative who is only interested in broadcasting her message. You are not in touch with the realities of our current tax system or the way that it impacts young middle class workers or the retired, who do not earn dividend income.
Any time Sharon. I will make myself available.
Elisabeth, I really don’t know where you get your stats to make your statements. Both your last post and this one are full of inaccuracies. You found a great source but you didn’t look at it closely enough, especially your page 10! The Trump tax cuts benefit everyone. From corporations to small business to the average American. The main goal, since you missed it, was to benefit the economy and the everyday citizen including the middle class. The tax cuts have helped with record low unemployment for the middle class including record numbers for minorities. Do you think the tax cuts have helped when things got shut down during the pandemic? I wonder what the economy would have looked like without the cuts? Our economy faired far better than other countries’ economies. But your facts are off. Middle class significant income declines since the 80s? Do yourself a Google search and you’ll see that is not true. Median incomes have increased over time. Take a look at the last four years. See that (record) uptick? Thank you Trump tax cuts because his cuts helped boom the economy. So you have more income and are paying less in taxes. Where does that money go? Into the economy, and that benefits the middle class. You did your taxes wrong.
Phil Peterson-BREAKING NEWS: The Hunter Biden e-mail story you’ve repeated is a long-running project of the Russian intelligence disinformation crew. As one international affairs academic put it: it’s an “old Cold War disinformation tactic to pass information, especially but not exclusively when forged, to low-brow newspapers that have high circulation and low standards of investigation. Ideal for surfacing and amplification.” It has been disproven by every reputable authority, including by metadata contained on the disc itself. I’m not sure whether the NY Post, better known for stories about “swingers” like Trump in the 90s, has yet admitted its error and apologized.

Russia, Russia, Russia.
No it’s not, it’s utter corruption on the Potomac. The Steele dossier is a proven fraud, relied on for illegal FISA warrants that disclosed no wrongdoing. Mueller Report after $40 million and eighteen partisan prosecutors working for how long? Same result nothing. The impeachment articles would have, should have, stated specific transgressions but they were in fact empty vessels. Major media only parrots partisan talking points, how do we know this? Because they use the same words and phrases verbatim, it’s great sport to do a montage of CBS, NBC, ABC and CNN comments all the same, no variance and we’re supposed to be too stupid to notice.
Here’s a little something that just came my way from and “unbiased” source: “Your mission is not to turn every person into a lifelong voter… It is not to encourage everyone to become active in politics… It’s to get them to cast one vote in one election to get rid of one really horrible and dangerous president. That’s it. — David Plouffe”
Useful Idiots – V.I. Lenin
Elisabeth and Peg, I learned long ago that you cannot lecture to the deaf, but I admire you for trying. Thousands are dying needlessly every week because of an incompetent, horrific president who threatens our democracy, and all “Sharon Donague” can think about is keeping her tax cuts. Phil Peterson cannot see the obvious evidence right in front of his eyes that this man owes his presidency to the Kremlin. (At least Phil writes under his own name, something that cannot be said for “Sharon.”)
I look forward to the coming Blue Tsunami that will wash this wannabe dictator out of the White House and many spineless Republicans out of the Senate. After that, we can get some major tax increases on the ultra-wealthy who have been benefitting inordinately from tax cuts ever since Reagan came into office with his supply-side, “voodoo” economics, and the US budget went into deficit territory, never to return except during Clinton’s second term, now measured in the trillions. If I recall correctly, the topmost tax rate in the 1970s was 70 percent. Hmmmm…..
Curious to hear from the Trump supporters. Are you proud and supportive of chants of “ lock her up” at a MI rally yesterday? This time it was for an incumbent elected governor who is the target of death threats and a domestic terrorist plot. Trump seemed to be encouraging this rhetoric, nodding in agreement with a smirk on his face.
As entertaining as it used to be watching the trump supporters fumble for justifications-
Why not just be honest. The thing his fan-boys just love, nearly to the point of deification, is the fact that he openly encourages hate. And violence. Stoking hatred of the other is literally his only political accomplishment, and that circuitry, that need to hate was already well established in the majority of his base. It follows the psychopathological tendencies of many who are fall victim to cult influence.
Personaly, I don’t even find it offensive anymore, now it’s just sad to see… like a broken toy, or a hand-shy dog.
Michael can you please check my arithmetic?
Oxford and UW initial forecasts approx were 2.2 million American deaths in the first wave – Deaths to date 210,000 = Trump Administration saved approx. 2 million Americans.
Also be careful speculating and checking for “real people” Luther thinks its creepy.
Thanks, Phil
Phil! My man! Long time… how’s that finish carpentry coming?
Admittedly yes, I do find it a bit creepy when clinically paranoid people start doing background checks on others based solely on their political leanings.
Don’t be sore just because my opsec is stronger than yours…;)
Luther,
My comment was “finishing tasks” that include staining, painting, polishing, landscaping and yes, carpentry. You happened to cite exactly what I was doing, which I found a bit creepy, logical question who is this guy? I’ve met Michael elsewhere so I know he’s real.
No offense intended, just who is this guy?
Take care, Phil
The Riordan, Trump’s tax cuts are just one example of why you should not vote for Biden. For your perusal, I have included a list of Trump’s accomplishments below. All you dems want to do is tax, tax, tax. Don’t you get it? Taxing kills business which kills jobs, and that hurts the middle class. Look at what Inslee is doing to this state as an example. He ranks #50 out of 50 (dead last) on the CATO Institute Fiscal Policy Report. Meaning… he is killing business and driving them out of our state. Trump is a dictator? I suppose you are pro Inslee/Whitmer/blue state governors who will dictate when you can go to work, how (if) you will feed your family, what you will wear, and how much more you will pay them for those services! These blue state governors SHOULD be locked up. What they have done to their constituents is a travesty. Record domestic violence, suicides, depression as a result of their policies. And Biden will do the same by shutting down the country if his doctor tells him to. Government has no place getting their greedy fingers that close into everyone’s personal lives. Luther mentions Trump openly encourages hate? Here we go again. You and The Riordan need a new drum. All your “hate” clips the media will show you are either taken completely out of context or they are not showing you the full clip. You will point to his words of “Immigrants as rapists” but he wasn’t talking about ALL immigrants and you know it. “Very fine people on both sides in Charlottesville?” He wasn’t saying white nationalists/KKK are very fine people and he specifically condemned that group and others DIRECTLY after he said “very fine people.” But the media doesn’t show you that clip. Unbelievable. I could go on. As I have said, Trump has condemned hate time and time again, but for some reason you all just can’t hear it. The only hate I ever see is coming from the dems who constantly play the race card at every turn and openly encourage street violence during the “protests.” Biden has a long history of racial divisive talk including “not wanting his kids to grow up in a racial jungle,” “you ain’t black if you don’t vote for him,” his connections with Robert Byrd, former KKK leader. Long list of Biden and such talk. You must remember that the Republican party was founded as an anti-slavery party and advocates for freedom, opportunity, and equality for all as a core principal to this day. Dems will give you just enough to scrape by and vote for them because “you need them,” but that thumb will always be on you. Republicans will lay the groundwork for you to realize your wildest dreams and opportunities. Consider this as you mark your ballot. Stop listening to all the superficial nonsense and look at the core policies and accomplishments below. If you want more of that direction, consider a vote for Trump.
The Accomplishments of President Trump
IGNITING A HISTORIC ECONOMIC BOOM: President Trump’s pro-growth policies are
unleashing economic growth and providing opportunities to workers across the country.
Due to President Trump’s pro-growth policies, real gross domestic product (GDP) growth
exceeded 3 percent over the last four quarters.
Real GDP grew at annual rates of 3.4 percent in the third quarter of 2018 and 4.2 percent
in the second quarter.
More than 5 million jobs have been created since President Trump’s election and the
unemployment rate remains below 4 percent.
This is the eighth time this year that the unemployment rate has been below 4 percent.
Prior to this year, the unemployment rate had fallen below 4 percent only five times since
1970.
The unemployment rate for African-Americans in May fell to 5.9 percent, which is the
lowest rate on record.

Sharon,
Breathtaking! And now I can clearly see with the obvious evidence is right in front of my eyes!!!
Thanks, Phil
Haaaha, that was great!! Phil/Sharon, epic performance!! That’s some serious foundation work! Now in this particular con, as it is somewhat untraditional, would Phill just be considered a shill, or the equivalent of The in-and-in? Either way, truly Oscar worthy…. you guys totally made my Sunday.
I love it Luther!! “Phil the Shill”
But honestly I don’t know Sharon, above is the only communication I’ve ever had with her – No Collusion Here.
No more time to play either have more finishing tasks to do.
Stay well buddy!
It’s been revealing and helpful to see the alternative universe in which the Trumpsters live, in their very own words.
Nothing like the facts to screw up liberal and media brainwashing, eh The Riordan?
I’ve read that list of “accomplishments” before. Smoke and mirrors, like Trump. “Securing funding” for = Congress appropriated funds, not Trump, for one thing. Much of the rest is just the equivalent of hopes and dreams, all issued with great fanfare and no substance. Most of the EOs have no legal effect at all. Many of these are studies and such.
And, of course, the list doesn’t answer: where’s the “repeal and replace” health plan? Where’s the wall (not that we want it) and where are the Mexican payments fit it? Where are those $200 per Medicare patient “Trump Cards” he promised in September? And more immediately, where’s the PPE and WHERE ARE THE TESTS? There are 300+ people in the country. His claim of 50 million tests is ridiculous. He and his staff must use hundreds of tests a week while we still can’t get them.
Life’s too short to try to educate Trumpets, but I’d suggest that anyone who hasn’t already voted, and hasn’t yet decided for whom to vote, check a fact checking site about any claim listed in the “kill them with info” dump above.
It’s interesting that “Sharon Donague” is so thoroughly informed about Trump’s “accomplishments,” but is not registered to vote, at least not in Washington state.
In fact, the only “Sharon Donague” I could find in White Pages is a septuagenarian living in a trailer park in Mineral Wells, Texas.
Manning, you so eloquently point out that the accomplishment list is incomplete and is actually a very outdated list. It needs about another four pages. Wall? Currently 375 miles of wall built with goal of 450 by the end of the year to be recouped by car tolling at the border (Mexico to the US, not the other way around). Repeal and Replace Obamacare? Maybe not in full because of partisan politics at play and obstructionist Dems and a few rouge Republicans, but well underway including eliminating the individual mandate that would have made citizens pay a FINE if you don’t have insurance. Really dude? As I said, the Dems will find any way they can to get your money! PPE? Trump acted quickly and signed the Defense Protection Act in mid March that allowed the military and businesses to produce PPE and things like ventilators (which the US is now shipping all over the world because we have so many of them). This plus enacting the travel ban from China on 2/2/20 against the advise of most everyone including many in his own cabinet. Testing has seen improvements every day since the start of the pandemic, per Fouchi himself, including recently 150 million rapid Covid-19 tests distributed by the Trump admin to the states. Smoke and mirrors? I don’t think so. The accomplishments are as tangible as you can get. The question is simply whether or not you have the humility to admit Trump has actually done a lot of good.
Since Sharon doesn’t live in San Juan County, unless under a different name, I had decided to ignore her ill informed and angry postings. But I feel compelled to point out that the Ryan tax cuts, which indeed boosted corporate profits, are adding trillions of dollars to our Federal deficit. As a grandfather, I really, really don’t like the idea that we’ve either saddled my granddaughter’s generation with the IOU, or to watch Social Security and Medicare crippled by the Grover Norquist true believers. Let’s get sane and return to higher taxes on the wealthy, and go after their tax-free havens offshore, already.
Agreed, Robert. The idea that tax cuts lead to economic stimulation is a recurrent Republican myth with no evidence to support it, that dates back at least to the Reagan tax cuts. Instead, the corporations roll them over into dividends and stock buy-backs, as Rick has written in “Who Stole the American Dream.” And the already wealthy just add to their investments in assets, like yachts and real estate. They don’t create many jobs, if any.
Meanwhile the national debt has ballooned to over $17 trillion and will soon exceed $20 trillion because of the pandemic—while China has been showing surpluses almost every year. That’s why the Biden tax increases will hit major corporations and their wealthy investors the hardest. Somebody has to pay the Piper, not our grandkids, and it might as well be those who benefitted the most from the Republican silliness during the past four decades.
The Riordan, your way of thinking is completely flawed. If taxing the American people is a Democrat’s only way to see how to make money, I would say Dems need to go back to the drawing board. Here’s a novel idea: how about setting up a prosperous economy so you don’t have to punish people with taxes? Biden’s taxes will hit everyone hard, and your wealthy investors will just move away and not do business here. Jobs creation depends on those investments. Look at all the investors and businesses fleeing Washington State as an example. The Democrats are killing job creation in this state, and as a result, the middle class suffers the most. Make investing locally attractive and you will end up with great-paying jobs and a booming middle class. You don’t need tax increases to accomplish your objective. You simply need a flourishing economic system. Trump gets this; Biden does not.
Sharon Hoague, or whatever your name is:
WALL. Has increased BY THREE MILES. 654 miles were already built before Trump. The border is 2000 miles long, more or less.
The White House press office did not respond to our queries for information. But we did get some details from the agency that oversees border security, U.S. Customs and Border Protection.
Construction as of May 15
The U.S.-Mexico border spans nearly 2,000 miles. Before Trump became president, 654 miles had primary barriers. More than three years into Trump’s presidency, that has increased by 3 miles, to 657 miles of primary barriers, according to information provided by CBP.
I’m not sure whether the above includes the sections built at great taxpayer expense by a Trump supporter which are collapsing.
Donald Trump stated on January 10, 2019 in a roundtable at the border:
Trump says he didn’t say Mexico would write US a check for border wall. But he did
By Samantha Putterman• January 10, 2019
Donald Trump stated on January 02, 2019 in a tweet:
No, Mexico isn’t paying for border wall through USMCA trade deal, despite Donald Trump’s claims
By Miriam Valverde• January 4, 2019
Donald Trump stated on January 20, 2016 in a town hall in Norwalk, Iowa:
Donald Trump says of course Mexico can pay for wall — because of the trade deficit
By Amy Sherman• January 26, 2016
And added just in time for the campaign: “The President mentioned that paying for the border wall could result from a combination of the border crossing fees and instituting a tax on money sent to Mexico by people who work north of the border but send money to family in Mexico.”
None of these has been put into effect, as with most of Trump’s promises.
*Sharon Donague. Repeal and Replace the ACA: Trump has tried several times to do this and thanks to John McCain, suffered a stinging defeat. Congress eliminated the mandate, big deal. Trump is at the Supreme Court once again seeking to invalidate the ACA, and if successful, will eliminate coverage for pre-existing conditions and adult children coverage on parents’ policies WITH NO REPLACEMENT.
Yes, you keep ignoring the REPLACE part of the proposition. Despite repeatedly promising to release the hugest very bestest health care plan ever any day for four years, Trump has failed even to articulate an idea.
Peg, that is totally incorrect, and why did you stop your data search at May 15? To date, 371 miles have been completed, 556K tons of steel used, 797K cubic yards of concrete. 30′ high steel wall with areas of lighting, cameras, and sensors. https://www.cbp.gov/border-security/along-us-borders/border-wall-system. Take a look at the map. The new wall is both in areas where there was no barrier and replacing existing barriers which in many cases were fallen-down, dilapidated fences or strands of barb wire between tree stumps. The President has made amazing progress on an issue that has plagued our country for decades when everyone before him either completely ignored the problem or just talked about it. Margaret, don’t fall into the trap of going back many years to find snip quotes to point fingers. As with many things, the wall was and is a work in progress. It takes leadership and vision to find a way to make things happen in the face of adversity and obstructionism. Nobody cares about a snip quote from four years ago. It’s about the results, and we have results. And health care? Trump has pledged many times, of which always seems to fall on deaf ears (or just not reported), that he won’t eliminate coverage for pre-existing conditions. I think he has pledged this more than he has condemned white supremacy! Please look up the facts before repeating what you hear on mainstream media platforms. Trump failed to articulate an idea? The facts state otherwise: https://www.whitehouse.gov/presidential-actions/executive-order-america-first-healthcare-plan/. He has made incredible and needed changes by REPLACING many Obamacare policies. And remember, the President is one person. He can’t do it all himself. If obstructionist politics are going to get in the way of progress, you should not blame that on Trump. The fact that this President has accomplished what he has, given the hostile working environment he has to deal with, is incredible. Trump has kept 90+% of his promises, and the only reason he hasn’t delivered on the final 10% is because Democrats have done absolutely everything they possibly can to get in the way. You have a right to be upset that some of these things aren’t done, but the finger pointing is in the wrong direction.
And I appear to have been censored by this publication. I had responded to Manning’s claims with a thoughtful response and included two links to the Customs and Border Patrol website and the Whitehouse website as data sources. On this site, if you include a link in your comment, your comment must “await moderation.” I have no idea what the moderator could have possibly found in my post that they didn’t like other than they may have disgreed with my points or didn’t like the data. Orcasonian, you have multiple complaints of your site censoring conservative viewpoints. I think we can all agree that censorship of comments that do not violate any guidelines is completely unacceptable. We will see what happens to this post!
But to my points, Peg, please look up the CBP website for progress on the wall. Your “three miles” is completely false and I don’t know where you got that. And why stop your data at May 15? Progress thru 10/19 is 371 miles built, 556K tons of steel, and 797K cubic yards concrete use. Look at the map on the site and you will see the new wall versus existing barriers. The new wall is being built in areas where there were both no barriers at all or replacing existing barriers, which in many cases consisted of dilapidated fences with holes or barb wire stretched between tree stumps. New wall is 30′ tall and many areas with lighting, cameras, sensors.
Margaret, please don’t fall into the trap of going back many years finding a snip quote to use against this President today. Most of us want results, and Trump has delivered on the wall when everyone said it couldn’t be done and politicians have done nothing but talk about this problem for decades. It takes leadership and vision to make results in the face of adversity. You have a President that has actually done something about the problem, and that should be commended. I too was skeptical of whether or not a wall was the best idea, but after looking at the project in detail and looking the results, you too should have a different perspective. I also invite you to visit the Whitehouse website to see the health care plan changes. These changes have REPLACED many Obamacare disasterous policies with much better, common sense policies that work for everyone. I can’t post the URL because I guess the moderators don’t want to see it!
And finally, looping back to taxes. Consider this, Orcas Islanders. There is a large demographic of elderly in SJC. Perhaps many of you are lucky enough to be sitting on a decent, hard-earned nest egg partially or fully in the form of IRAs. Perhaps you want to give your grandchildren a loan or down payment on a house of their dreams. Pulling that money out of that IRA is taxable income, as you know. Combined with normal annual revenue stream(s), perhaps you end up being in Biden’s “rich” category after cashing in that IRA. Well guess what? Biden’s tax plan will absolutely ream you a new one with a 53% (!!) tax rate on that money in Washington State. That’s over half of your money, that YOU made, gone… right to the government. Or you can move to California and the rate would be 65%. Even 50 Cent has a problem with Biden! And that’s on top of Biden’s repeal pledge of the Trump tax cuts which we have already established will raise taxes on everyone regardless of tax bracket. We should all find this unacceptable. Your nest egg is a result of your incredible hard work and sacrifice and is NOT the property of government. This is why many people are voting for Trump even if they don’t like him.
Sharon Donague makes it seem as if she’s really done her homework , with that impressive list of Trump accomplishments. But no, I was crushed to discover that it was all just cut-and-paste from the White House’s own website: https://www.whitehouse.gov/briefings-statements/the-historic-results-of-president-donald-j-trumps-first-two-years-in-office/. It’s all there, word for word.
So Lin, if you’re reading this, please note that “Sharon Donague” is very likely no more than a troll pumping out Trump propaganda.
No troll here. Just a conservative in your community tired of listening to liberal untruths and furtherment of an unfair agenda against this President and Republicans in general. You all can call me all the nasty names you want, but I seem to be the only one on here presenting any facts and substance. The reactionary response of name-calling and disparaging attacks against those who don’t fall in line with you is charming though, I must say. And did I say I made the list? I did not. Just posted it for people to see because the mainstream media won’t ever show a Trump accomplishment. By the way, that list was the first two (2) years of his presidency. Because this site apparently likes to censor me, I am not including any URLs. But you can look up “benziecountyrepublicans trump accomplishments” for the list. On the list, every single accomplishment has a URL that follows it for more information that I recommend everyone look through carefully.
Gotta do your homework people! You are being manipulated by those who seek to control you (liberal media). It’s the great mind job of our time… don’t fall for it. Trump 2020.
“Sharon Donague.” you are a plagiarist. You posted a list of alleged Trump accomplishments under your own name, without quotation marks or attribution. But the list was written by someone else who posted it at whitehouse.gov. That is plagiarism. It is not enough to (later) identify the source from which you copied. As for the Benzie County Republicans, are you actually Robby Starbuck?
Sharon Donague:
“Because this site apparently likes to censor me” …. “censor me””??????? Are you kidding?
Benziecountyrepublicanstrumpaccomplishments is on the site of the MICHIGAN County Republicans.
Sharon Donague (maybe AKA Robbie Starbuck who purports to have written this screed) merely copied this from the White House website. Take a look at his youtubes. On the other hand this just gives him more publicity.
Sharon Donague, single handedly schooling the entire Orcas left. What a show!
Hey, so who’s happy that this election is almost over?
Will “Dale Farrick” and “Sharon Donahue” disappear on November 4, 2020?
Mr. Cohen, not plagarism, just avoiding censorship as this publication censors posting of harmless data sources (websites including CBP and whitehouse in my example), much like Facebook and Twitter. Yes Mrs. Hoague, censorship. See my last post. And the censorship continues today. This publication is apparently tired of this thread and removed it from “trending this week.” Lin, you should remove posts that violate guidelines (e.g., “George Washington’s” uncalled-for attack post) and not bury the entire thread so nobody can see it. That’s censorship. But this is all such a typical response. When presented with facts and an alternate view, a conservative voice is attacked, maligned, and censored, and I would hope everyone will join me in condemning these acts. You all need to listen to the words posted on your own site:
Here’s a thought…
“Most of all, differences of opinion are opportunities for learning.”
TERRY TEMPEST WILLIAMS
Americans would have been much better off had they elected a parakeet for President. Instead we got a petulant child.
Mr. Webster, I find your comment remarkably ironic. Would you mind explaining in detail which specific accomplishment of the President you have a problem with, or is repeating something you’ve heard a thousand times before all you got (like a parakeet, if you missed it)?
“Accomplishment” assumes facts not in evidence.
Mrs. Hoague, your response to my list is that you can’t believe the list is from MICHIGAN republicans? Does that matter somehow? Mrs. Manning, you haven’t done your homework. I find it so amazing how those who hate this President keep pounding untruths like your last comment and pretty much most comments in this thread. It is so typical. It’s not that the facts don’t exist. It is simply that you and others don’t want to see them. In case you missed it, I presented this forum with a treasure trove of Trump’s accomplishments with evidence to support. They are all there, with URLs for each one (for list #2). Really good, tangible results that, if you could bring yourself to read it, even you all might think “wow, there’s a lot of good here!” Did you even read the list? Click any of the links? Just admit that you did not and that you don’t want to. Again, google “benzie county republicans trump accomplishments” and see the PDF. Are you saying those things did not happen? But somehow you and many others won’t even bother reading any of it because you want to keep “parakeeting” the same old lines and lies at the applause of your liberal friends on this forum. I’m not trying to change your mind to vote for Trump. You have already made up your mind based on what you have seen on liberal media platforms (the great mind job of our time). At this point I am simply pointing out that you and many in this forum simply don’t care about the facts. You have an agenda, the liberal media has manipulated you to make you think you hate this President, and you will fall in line and vote the way they want you to vote. So easy, yet so sad.
