The Orcas Island Library will begin offering free computer classes Saturday afternoons, Feb. 28. These classes are for PC users only, as the library does not have the equipment to teach Apple.
The Library laptops will be used for instruction. As there are only five of these computers, classes will be limited to five students per session.
However, if patrons wish to sign up with a spouse or friend and are comfortable sharing a laptop, or if patrons owning a laptop wish to bring it to class, the library can accommodate up to a total of ten students.
The classes include:
- Introduction to Computers and Windows. Basics of computers and Microsoft Windows, using the mouse, cut and paste techniques, creating files and folders and more.
- Introduction to and Using the Internet. Basics of how to access the Internet, finding simple information, using search engines.
- Email. Creating an email account. Sending, receiving, managing email. Using address books and attachments. Using your email account with the Library’s computers.
- Introduction to Microsoft Office Word. Basic overview of using MS Word. Creating and modifying documents in Word: copy, cut and paste, inserting pictures, printing, and saving files.
