There will be a screening of “Awake: A Dream From Standing Rock” the just-released documentary from Myron Dewey, Josh Fox, and James Spione, which is currently being shown in the Tribeca Film Festival in New York. The screening on Orcas will be at the Odd Fellows Hall, 112 Haven Road in Eastsound, on Sunday, Apr. 30 at 7 pm.

The film runs 84 minutes. Suggested donation of $5 will cover the cost of renting the hall, and any additional proceeds will go to the Indigenous Media Fund and a Pipeline Fighters Fund supervised by the film’s creators and a council of indigenous leaders to support direct actions, indigenous filmmakers, and journalists.

Co-Director Josh Fox is best known for his 2010 Oscar-nominated film “Gasland.” He is one of the most prominent public opponents of hydraulic fracturing (”fracking”). In 2017 he was awarded his third Environmental Media Association award for Best Documentary for his film “How to Let Go of the World and Love All The Things Climate Can’t Change,” which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in 2016 and was released on HBO in June. Fox is a contributing journalist most recently seen in Rolling Stone and the Daily Beast. His reporting from Standing Rock has been seen by over 40 million people online.
