Drew Dillhunt, one of the featured writers at the Drop Out reading at Mia’s on Sunday, March 20

The second reading and open mic evening at Mia’s hosted by Drop Out on Orcas, an artist retreat, will be Sunday, March 20 at 6 P.M. All writers are invited to read their own work with a five-minute courtesy limit. 

“For the last open mic, we had a nearly full house,” Drop Out director Jennifer Brennock said. “It’s exciting to hear from new voices on the island and to have a room full of people sharing their words with each other.” 
 
Poet and publisher Drew Dillhunt will be featured at the reading. Dillhunt is author of Leaf is All (2015), the winner of the 2015 Dorothy Brunsman Poetry Prize, and a finalist for the National Poetry Series. His writing has appeared in VOLTMudlarkEclectica,Tarpaulin Sky, and Jacket2. Dillhunt live-in the Bacon Hill neighborhood of Seattle and is also a musician with the bands Fighting Shy and Answering Machines. Dillhunt serves as the Associate Editor of Hummingbird Press. 
 
Also reading March 20 will be dramatist and filmmaker Donte Felder. Felder, who was diagnosed with disgraphia (a writing-related learning disability) as a child and spent five years in special education, won the W.E.A. Humanitarian Award for his play dealing with race relations and school integration, “First Day.” Born and raised in Seattle, Felder now teaches dramatic writing to middle school children in one of the most diverse neighborhoods in the country. He has produced several short films and plays with his drama team, the Columbia City Youth Theater Group. His current play is in production and is titled The Mis-Education of the Well-Meaning Liberal.
