The Salish Sea needs your support! And we’ve got an easy way for you to help. Simply volunteer your social media pages and networks to help FRIENDS raise awareness about the Particularly Sensitive Sea Area (PSSA) designation.

We’ve created a video called  Safe Passage in the Salish Sea that prompts viewers to sign an online petition.  Please help us get this video and its message out with enough force that it’s heard by our Washington and British Columbia representatives, including President Obama and Prime Minister Trudeau, who will meet March 10 to discuss potential trans-boundary projects.

We’re using the “Thunderclap” platform to help amplify our voice.  Thunderclap is an online tool that easily times a message to be mass-shared by your friends and networks. Think of it as an automatic “online flash mob.” Our Thunderclap will go out this Sunday, March 6 at 6 p.m.

HOW TO HELP:
Please click here to join our thunderclap platform anytime before this Sunday at 6 p.m. PCT and it will automatically trigger a loud message about the need for a Salish Sea PSSA. It will only take a matter of seconds to join!

  1. Click on the link above.
  2. Simply select “Support with Facebook” or “Support with Twitter” or both!
  3. You are then signed-up to share our PSSA message through Facebook and/or Twitter.
  4. The message will automatically be sent March 6th @ 6 p.m.

This platform will coordinate all of our voices to speak online at once. Research says that Sunday evenings are a very effective time to share on social media.

Please forward this email to your network and boost our number of supporters. We need 100 people to sign-up through Thunderclap or our message will not be sent, so please help get the word out!

FRIENDS, along with many partners and stakeholders, is leading this trans-boundary effort in Washington State and British Columbia to designate the Salish Sea as a PSSA under the International Maritime Organization. The best protection against the dangers associated with increased global shipping comes from greater awareness of this area through designation as a PSSA.

If you don’t want to sign-up for the official Thunderclap, but still want to participate, create your own message on Facebook, Twitter or by email and share the video and the petition at the following links, BUT still wait until the evening of March 6th to share far and wide:
