If you are an Islander 10 years old or older, make your way to Orcas Center on Thursday, January 22 at 7:30 pm for Robert Louis Stevenson’s classical adventure story of murder, money and mutiny. Treasure Island is brought to life in a thrilling new stage adaptation by Bryony Livery, and is broadcast live from the National Theatre in London.

It’s a dark, stormy night. The stars are out. Jim, the innkeeper’s granddaughter, opens the door to a terrifying stranger. At the scary old sailor’s feet sits a huge sea-chest, full of secrets. Jim invites him in and her dangerous voyage begins.

This highly entertaining and beautifully designed adaptation of Robert Louis Stevenson’s classic adventure Treasure Island is a fast paced, daring, gruesome comedy, a big ambitious and magical family show appropriate for 10 + years.

The imaginative writer/director team has turned Stevenson’s classic boy’s-own adventure story into a big mad scary gothic feminist coming-of-age experience anchored by stupendous special effects  and a plucky hero who’s actually a heroine.

The National Theatre opens its vast treasure chest and flings all its resources into a spectacular production that’s genuinely fun for all the family.

“From the planked wooden stage, an extraordinary ship rises and tilts beneath a dazzling canopy of artificial stars. After the interval, when Jim and her friends and pirate foes have reached their island destination, the stage is framed by a grove of wooden spars, like the bows of a wreck or the ribs of a broken-hearted giant.”  —National Theatre

“Spectacular. Daring. Fun for all the family.” —Time Out

“Witty. Playful. A richly enjoyable show” —Financial Times

“Astonishing. A remarkable take on Stevenson’s classic” —Observer
