In recognition of Poetry Month, and to celebrate our treasure trove of Orcas Island poets, Orcas Issues is pleased and honored to offer daily poetry during April.

Train Storm

On a day like this,
shrouded as I am,
in a tapestry of grey,
I think of you,
the train we shared,
cutting across four states
at a speed beyond
our ability to keep up.

(I try to remember your name,
as if you had actually told me.)

I cannot forget, however,
the storm, the fury
when we decided
to finish what had started,
to get off
at a sweet spot
that was not
on either
itinerary.
