Styrofoam Recycling Matures on Orcas

The Exchange is taking the next step in Styrofoam recycling on Orcas Island. After three months of collecting Styrofoam at the Z-Wall, staff toured a commercial recycling operation in Kent and are exploring the purchase of a “densifier” to transform waste Styrofoam into a recyclable material and keep it out of the landfill. Hazardous Waste Event This Saturday!

Bring all your household hazardous waste to The Exchange for another FREE collection event this Saturday, June 20th from 10am to 2pm! Exchange staff and volunteers will be there to help unload your vehicle.

NO paints, stains, liquid fuels (gas, kerosene, etc.) will be accepted it at this event.

Secret to a Thriving Garden: Reuse

After accidentally killing a succulent and declaring myself a hopeless gardener, I made a comeback comparable to the Knicks in game 4 of the NBA Finals (if you’re not a sports fan, it was impressive). Now, armed with a worm bin full of “black gold” and some free mulch from The Exchange, my deck garden is thriving. If I can do it, anyone can! Read the story.
