The summer season is upon us and the Sculpture Park is ready with new art and free activities! Visit Long Neck, our newest (and most difficult to install) addition to the collection. Bird Walks are happening each month and the Summer Art Series will be back at the park each Sunday. Read on for details and check out our website for more info at sjisculpturepark.com.
Save your Sunday afternoons for some fun, free art at the Sculpture Park. Each Art Series event takes place on Sundays from 2–4pm. All sculpture events will be led by local artists and are designed for all ages. Many of your co-creations will remain on display all summer at the
Park! No artistic experience necessary. All you need is a good attitude and a determination to have fun. See the complete schedule at sjisculpturepark.com/events. Registration is encouraged as spots may be limited. Register at programs@sjisculpturepark.com.
Our monthly Bird Walks are happening as well, led by avid birder, Tyler Davis. The walks happen the first Wednesday of each month, April through October. Summer dates are Wednesdays, June 5, July 3, and August 7. Bring your binoculars!
And make sure you stop by the park to see the latest installation, Long Neck by Joe Treat. This newest addition is located near the fence along Roche Harbor Road, near the entrance sign. Purchased by the Sculpture Park, Long Neck will be a permanent installation.
Board member Marita Holdaway siad, “[T]his was one of the hardest pieces we have installed!” Long Neck was speculated to be 15 feet long and 300 lbs but ended up over 20 feet and 450 lbs! “[T]hat’s a lot of vertical weight to get up in the air and balanced,” commented Marita.
Visit Long Neck and over 150 other unique creations this summer! The 20-acre Park is dog-friendly, features five trails, and offers interactive exhibits for both children and adults. The Park is open every day of the year from dawn until dusk. There is no entry fee, but donations are appreciated.
