Marilyn plays the Bolling Suite

Marilyn Parman, professional bassist, will be joined by Patty Johnson, Linda Slone, Thor Hanson and Randy Jezierski on Sunday, Oct. 25, as they perfrom the Claude Bolling Suite.

As the final installment of the Island Classics series featuring chamber musicians from Lopez, San Juan and Orcas Islands, a program entitled The Best of Classical Jazz will be performed on Sunday, October 25 at 2pm on Orcas Center’s intimate OffCenter Stage.

The program, selected by Orcas Islander and professional bass player Marilyn Parman, will feature the Claude Bolling Suite for flute and piano. The suite, famously performed and recorded by Jean-Pierre Rampal, will be performed by Patty Johnson, piano, Linda Slone, flute, Marilyn Parman and Thor Hanson, bass, and Randy Jezierski on drums. The program will also feature an improvisational piano work by Lennon Aldort, the Washington State premiere of a work by contemporary composer Arni Egilsson, and a work by Hawk Arps.

The Island Classics series was envisioned by Parman to provide Orcas audiences a rare opportunity to enjoy the rich talent of classical musicians who call the San Juan Islands home. Highlights of the two previous Island Classics performances include San Juan’s Celia Rosenberger on violin

The one matinee performance of Classical Jazz will be on Sunday, October 25 at 2 pm. Tickets are $16 and $10 for students. For more information or to purchase tickets, please visit www.orcascenter.org or call or 360/376-2281 ext 1.
